Portal Messages & Billing Policy

Because some messages sent through our patient portal require clinical decision-making, they may be covered by your insurance as a brief medical visit. Depending on the message, you will be charged and a bill will be submitted. Reimbursement will follow your plan’s coverage and will count towards your deductible.

Typical Charges: $35–$50 per message, depending on complexity and time spent

What Is Billable?

Messages that require clinical judgment, chart review, or treatment decisions will be billed. Examples include:

  • New or worsening symptoms requiring evaluation

  • Medical counseling or complex health questions

  • Medication changes, new prescriptions, or dose adjustments

  • Test results that require changes to your care plan

  • Multiple back-and-forth messages in a thread

What Is NOT Billable

  • Prescription refill requests

  • Appointment or scheduling questions

  • Responses to messages initiated by your provider

  • Simple informational updates or confirmations

Before You Send a Message

  • If your message is billable, we will notify you before submission. By sending a message requiring clinical evaluation, you acknowledge that a charge may apply.

  • Consider Your OptionsFor ongoing or complex concerns, scheduling an office or telehealth visit may be more efficient and cost-effective than multiple portal messages.
